Before a Ride
When nerves start building or pressure creeps in.
During a Ride
When a mistake happens or your focus begins to spiral.
When your mind keeps replaying what went wrong.
You tell yourself:
"That wasn't great."
You ask yourself:
"Why did I do that?"
You tell yourself:
"Maybe I'm not riding well enough."
You tell yourself:
"Everyone else looked better."
"I've gone backwards."

The reset walks you through four simple steps designed to interrupt the overthinking spiral and bring your attention back to the present moment.
1. Stop the Spiral
A short mental pattern interrupt to stop catastrophic thinking before it escalates.
2. Breathe
A guided breathing pattern that signals safety to your nervous system.
3. Ground
A quick grounding exercise to bring your attention out of your head and back into the present moment.
4. Ride Focus
Choose one simple focus so you can return to riding with clarity.

Printable Tack Room Version
A printable version you can pin in your tack room, locker, or horsebox so it's always visible when pressure starts building.
Audio Reset Guide
A short audio version that walks you through the reset step-by-step so you can follow along without needing to read.
Simple tools often work best under pressure.
When your mind starts spiralling, this reset gives you something clear to return to.
When nerves rise, the brain moves into protection mode.
Thinking harder rarely helps — because the nervous system has already shifted out of calm, focused riding.
The 3-Minute Rider Reset works by guiding your attention back through four stages that regulates the nervous system and brings the mind and body back online.

Stop the spiral before it grows

Slow breathing signals safety to the nervous system

Grounding shifts attention out of the mind and into the moment.

One simple focus restores clarity.

One simple focus restores clarity.
You start replaying mistakes before you even get on your horse.
One bad stride suddenly feels like proof you’re not good enough.
You feel calm in the yard… but your mind spirals as soon as pressure builds.
You know what you should do — but your brain won't quiet down long enough to do it.
A small wobble feels like a setback that makes you question everything.

It’s that your brain is trying to solve a perceived threat.
And when that happens, thinking harder rarely helps.
What helps is interrupting the spiral quickly and bringing your attention back to the present moment.
That’s exactly what the 3-Minute Rider Reset is designed to do.
Created by a Rider Who Understands the Mental Side of the Sport
Hi, I'm Zena and like many riders, I’ve experienced the mental ups and downs that come with riding.
Over the years I’ve competed in a range of disciplines — including dressage, showjumping, eventing, showing, and riding club. And like many amateur riders balancing work and horses, I often found myself overthinking mistakes, being overly self-critical, and wondering if I was ever going to “get there”.
Then life forced me to step back.
After being diagnosed with colon cancer, I began working more intentionally on my mindset — learning how our thoughts shape confidence, resilience, and the way we respond to setbacks.
As I explored these ideas, I realised something important:
Many of the same mindset principles that help people navigate difficult moments in life can also transform the way riders approach their sport.
Instead of spiralling after mistakes.
Instead of comparing ourselves to others.
Instead of feeling like progress never comes fast enough.
We can learn how to pause, reflect, and rebuild confidence one ride at a time.
That realisation became the starting point for The Equestrian Edit.
A place for thoughtful tools designed to help riders strengthen their mindset, enjoy the process of learning, and build confidence in the saddle.

The Equestrian Edit creates thoughtful journals and mindset tools designed to support riders both in and out of the saddle. Our products help riders stay organised, build confidence, and enjoy the process of learning with their horses.
