You can have the lessons.
Put in the hours.
Train hard.
Know exactly what you're supposed to do.
And still find yourself getting in your own way.
One mistake becomes the thing you think about for the rest of the ride.
One difficult session knocks your confidence for days.
You compare yourself to another rider and suddenly everything you've achieved feels insignificant.
You know you can do something — but the moment it matters, doubt creeps in.
Or you finish a perfectly good ride thinking only about the one thing that went wrong.
Because riding isn't only physical.
How you think affects how you feel.
How you feel affects how you ride.
And how you respond when things don't go to plan can shape everything that happens next.
Imagine being able to…
Make a mistake — without letting it ruin the rest of your ride.
Finish a difficult session — without taking it home with you.
Feel nervous — without automatically deciding that means you can't do it.
Notice another rider doing brilliantly — without using their progress as evidence that you're falling behind.
Recognise the small wins — instead of constantly moving the goalposts on yourself.
Walk into a lesson or competition knowing what you want to focus on mentally, not just technically.
Look back and see actual evidence of how much more capable, resilient and confident you've become.
That's what mindset training can look like.
It isn't pretending every ride was amazing.
It isn't ignoring fear, frustration or disappointment.
And it isn't plastering “positive vibes only” over problems and hoping they disappear.
It's learning to think in ways that help you ride, learn and recover better.

This isn't a diary of what you did in the saddle.
It's a guided system for what happens before, during, and after you ride. Helping you understamd your thinking, build confidence from evidence, respond better to setbacks and become more intentional about the rider you're becoming.

Created by a Rider Who Understands the Mental Side of the Sport
Hi, I'm Zena and like many riders, I’ve experienced the mental ups and downs that come with riding.
Over the years I’ve competed in a range of disciplines — including dressage, showjumping, eventing, showing, and riding club. And like many amateur riders balancing work and horses, I often found myself overthinking mistakes, being overly self-critical, and wondering if I was ever going to “get there”.
Then life forced me to step back.
After being diagnosed with colon cancer, I began working more intentionally on my mindset — learning how our thoughts shape confidence, resilience, and the way we respond to setbacks.
As I explored these ideas, I realised something important:
Many of the same mindset principles that help people navigate difficult moments in life can also transform the way riders approach their sport.
Instead of spiralling after mistakes.
Instead of comparing ourselves to others.
Instead of feeling like progress never comes fast enough.
We can learn how to pause, reflect, and rebuild confidence one ride at a time.
That realisation became the starting point for The Equestrian Edit.
A place for thoughtful tools designed to help riders strengthen their mindset, enjoy the process of learning, and build confidence in the saddle.

The Equestrian Edit creates thoughtful journals and mindset tools designed to support riders both in and out of the saddle. Our products help riders stay organised, build confidence, and enjoy the process of learning with their horses.
