"I'm already thinking about everything that could go wrong."

"I feel like I'm letting them down."

"I replay every mistake for days afterwards."

"I miss how it used to feel."

"So why can't I be?"

"I've started questioning whether I'll ever be good enough."

If you've ever thought these things...
There's a reason fear can feel so powerful — even when part of you knows you're perfectly capable.
Fear affects riders of every age, discipline and level of experience. And when your brain and nervous system learn that something might be dangerous, simply telling yourself to “be brave” doesn't necessarily change the response.
Understanding what's happening changes how you can respond to it.
That's why I wrote Fear Is Not The Final Fence — and why I've brought it together with practical tools designed to help you turn that understanding into change.
Includes the Fear Is Not the Final Fence (Paperback), the Confidence & Resilience Journal (Paperback),
The Confident Rider Method (Digital), and the 3-Minute Rider Reset (Digital)
The Confident Rider Bundle gives you a practical way to work on confidence from three different angles...

Understand what's happening in your brain and nervous system when fear shows up, why it can feel so powerful, how avoidance can keep it going, and how to begin working with your nervous system rather than fighting against it.
Understand the fear.

Start collecting evidence of what's actually happening in your riding, not just what your inner critic remembers.
Notice progress, learn from difficult rides, recognise what's going well and gradually build a more resilient sense of confidence.
Build the evidence.

Simple techniques to help you regulate your nervous system, interrupt spiralling thoughts and bring your attention back to what matters when nerves or overthinking take over.
Change your response.
That's what rebuilding confidence can look like.
Understand what’s happening.
Change how you respond.
Start building confidence through experience.
Kristie from New Zealand had always considered herself a relatively confident rider. But after one frightening experience, mounting her mare began triggering intense anxiety.
She knew how to ride. She trusted her horse. She desperately wanted to get on.
But sometimes she'd stand at the mounting block for up to 90 minutes, unable to make herself do it.
Reading Fear Is Not The Final Fence helped her see the problem differently.
“I now see it as ‘my nervous system has learned that mounting block created danger, and it's really just trying to keep me safe’.”
She read. She journalled. She started recognising when her thoughts were spiralling. She practised refocusing. Some days went well. Some didn't.
And gradually... things began to change.

Kristie, New Zealand
If you've ever wondered...
"Why can I ride perfectly at home, but feel like a complete beginner at a competition?"
or...
"Why does my body panic even when I know I'm safe?"
You're asking exactly the right questions.
The answer isn't that you're weak.
It's that your brain is trying to protect you.

Your brain has one job:
To keep you alive.
It doesn't care about perfect dressage tests.
It doesn't care about clear rounds.
It doesn't care whether everyone else thinks you're a good rider.
Its only question is:
"Am I safe?"
The moment your brain believes the answer might be "no", it activates your survival system.
Your heart races.
Your breathing changes.
Your muscles tighten.
Your thinking becomes less clear.
Not because you're failing...
Because your nervous system is trying to protect you.
And that's exactly what the Confident Rider Bundle helps you do.
Not ignore fear.
Not pretend you're confident.
Not force yourself through it.
But understand what's happening, learn how to change your response, and start building confidence through experience.

Understand what’s happening.
A practical, accessible guide to the psychology and neuroscience behind riding fear: why confidence can disappear, why avoidance can keep fear going, and how to begin working with your nervous system instead of fighting against it.

You smile after rides.

Like so many riders, I've experienced that frustrating gap between knowing you can ride and not always feeling able to access that confidence when you need it.
That experience led me down a rabbit hole into the psychology of confidence, fear and performance, trying to understand why our brains can get in the way of something we know how to do, and what actually helps.
The more I learned, the more fascinated I became by the mental side of riding: how our nervous system responds to fear, how our thoughts influence performance, why we replay mistakes, how confidence is built through experience, and how much better we can ride when we're able to quiet some of the noise in our heads.
That's what eventually became The Equestrian Edit.
Today, I create books, journals and practical mental-performance tools specifically for horse riders, translating psychology, neuroscience and performance principles into things we can actually use in the saddle.
Because I don't believe riders need more people telling them to “just be confident.”
We need to understand what's happening, develop the skills to work with it, and give ourselves the opportunity to discover what we're capable of.

Not at all. You don't need to consider yourself a nervous rider to benefit from the bundle.
It's also for riders who overthink, struggle with competition nerves, replay mistakes, compare themselves to others, feel their confidence has dipped, or simply want to develop a more resilient mindset in the saddle.
Absolutely. Riding experience doesn't make us immune to fear, self-doubt or confidence wobbles. In fact, one of the most frustrating experiences can be knowing you're capable while finding that your brain or body isn't cooperating.
The tools are designed to help you understand that gap and work with it practically.
No. The resources are designed to complement each other, but you don't need to follow a rigid programme.
You can start with whichever resource feels most useful to you right now and use the others alongside it as you progress.
Your digital resources are available after purchase, so you can start using them while you wait for your physical books to arrive.

No — and it isn't intended to.
Your instructor helps you develop the physical and technical skills of riding. The Confident Rider Bundle focuses on the mental side: understanding fear, managing overthinking, regulating your nervous system, reflecting more constructively and developing confidence and resilience.
The two can work beautifully together.
That's not the promise.
Fear is a normal protective response, and the goal isn't to become a rider who never feels nervous again. The goal is to understand what's happening, develop practical ways to respond when fear or self-doubt shows up, and gradually build experiences that strengthen your confidence.
